BRYSTON BP-2 MM

-

Bryston has released three new small form-factor phono stage preamplifiers to join its BUC-1 digital-to-digital converter and BOT-1 CD ripper/player. The models are the Bryston BP-2 MM (for moving-magnet cartridges), the BP-2 MM/MC (for moving-coil and moving-magnet cartridges) [pictured] and the TF-2 step-up transformer (for low-output moving-coil cartridges). Both the MM and the MM/MC units require an outboard power supply called the PS-3—unless you own a Bryston BP-26 preamplifier with an MPS-2 power supply, in which case you can use that power supply instead.

The Bryston BP-2 MM and MM/MC have four capacitance settings (100, 200, 300 and 400pF) and the TF-2 can be ordered with either 20dB of gain (for cartridges less than 45 ) or 31dB of gain (for cartridges less than 5 ). ‘ The reason we introduced these products is that we’d spoken to so many consumers who’d bought a quality AV receiver only to discover it didn’t have a phono stage, so they couldn’t play their LPs,’ explained Bryston president Brian Russell. ‘ This line-up of analogue solutions addresses every possible need, delivering audiophile performance designed to fit on just about any AV rack or shelf.’ Russell told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine that he’s also considering building a DAC, a power amplifier and a preamplifier to complete the company’s small-chassis product line. As with all Bryston products, the small form-factor products are built in Canada and covered by Bryston’s 20-year warranty. In Australia, Bryston products are distributed by BusiSoft AV.
