FOCAL SOPRA NO3 ARRIVES

Focal’s newest loudspeaker, the Sopra No3, is now available in Australia. It becomes the largest loudspeaker in the Sopra family, the others being the Sopra No1 and No2. ‘ The unique modern design continues the Sopra visual identity and with a wide range of finishes, it is ready to integrate smoothly into interiors old and new,’ said Chris Murphy of N.A. Distributors, which distributes Focal in Australia. ‘ The N°3 is dynamic, musical and can deliver astonishing levels of sound, including a prodigious yet controlled bass and all the clarity and delicacy that complex music demands.’

As with other members of the Sopra family, the No 3 is made in France (the cabinets in BourbonLancy and the drivers in St Etienne), and like them it has a Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter. The 165mm-diameter midrange driver uses Focal’s own ‘W’ (triple-layer) cone with tuned mass damper surround, and bass is delivered by two 210mm- diameter bass drivers that also use Focal ‘W’ cones and operate from a bass reflex environment. ‘ All three Sopra models share the same technologies and the same core R&D as the $285K Grand Utopia loudspeakers,’ said Murphy. Focal rates the frequency response of the Sopra No 3 as 33Hz–40kHz ±3dB, and the sensitivity at 91.5dBSPL.

The Focal Sopra No3 is available in four lacquered finishes (Carrara White, Black Lacquer, Electric Orange and Imperial Red) and two standard wood veneer finishes: Dogato Walnut and Graphite Black. Each cabinet is 1264×402×595mm (HWD) and weighs 70kg. The speakers retail for $31,000 (RRP) per pair.
