Avid Pellar Phono Stage

-

Despite the recent return to vinyl, many amplifiers on the market still do not incorporate a phono stage. More importantly the phono stages in most amplifiers that do include phono stages still leave a lot to be desired. Because of this there has been a growing return to external phono stages.

It is not a coincidence that one of the better ones comes from Avid HiFi, since Avid manufacture some of the best value turntables on the market. At $1,299, the Pellar is Avid’s baby phono stage and is an exceptional performer for the price. It handles both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil (both high and low gain) cartridges. The gain can be changed for all settings, and it is possible to set the resistance value for any MM cartridge (like all phono stages the default setting is 47k).
