DYNAUDIO SUB 6
Dynaudio has released a new Sub 6 subwoofer with ‘intelligent’ digital signal processing that comes pre-programmed to integrate perfectly with main speakers from Dynaudio’s range. ‘ Dynaudio’s engineers painstakingly modelled the acoustic characteristics of its most popular high-end hi-fi speakers and created custom performance maps for each one,’ said George Poutakidis, of BusiSoft, which distributes Dynaudio in Australia. ‘ Using its display and the menu system built into the Sub 6, owners simply select the specific Dynaudio main speakers they have in their setup and the Sub 6’s output will be matched perfectly to it, so two-way speakers become three-ways, and three-way speakers seamlessly become four-ways.’
The DSP system in the Sub 6 is firmware-updateable, so when the company releases new speakers, Dynaudio says it will also release firmware updates for the Sub 6, adding new performance maps for the new models. In addition to this feature, the DSP also has parametric equalisation, and three filters to help counter the effects of any room modes, to ensure the best possible performance. It also has automatic time-delay circuitry to ensure that its output arrives at the listening position at the same time as the output from your main speakers. ‘ All a user has to do is enter the distance from the sub to the speakers and the sub will adjust itself automatically using both time and phase delays,’ said Poutakidis.
The Dynaudio Sub 6 has an on-board amplifier rated with an output of 500-watts, which drives two newly-designed drivers whose cones combine Dynaudio’s Magnesium Silicate Polymer (MSP) material with aluminium and paper to provide both drive and two kinds of resonance damping. ‘ Our new MSP+ Hybrid Drive units are brand-new drivers designed specifically for subwoofer use,’ said Otto Jørgensen, Product Manager at Dynaudio. ‘ These new drivers sit at either end of the carefully constructed sealed enclosure design, which stands wider than it does deep to help it sit more discreetly against a wall.’ Available now, the Dynaudio Sub 6 is available in Black Satin and White Satin lacquer finishes and retails for $3,499 (RRP).
