At the re­cent Mai­son et Ob­jet in Paris I was drawn to any­thing from Bel­gium. What’s so at­trac­tive is the idea of tra­di­tion be­ing in­ter­preted in new ways and old man­u­fac­tur­ing tech­niques be­ing rein­vented; a nod to the past but look­ing for­ward. Noth­ing is over-de­signed. Preva­lent ma­te­ri­als: tinted glass in soft colours, mar­ble, brass/gold and matt/gloss ce­ram­ics mixes.
