GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
If you have access to a laser printer, you can create gilt-embossed images and lettering for greeting cards or DIY artworks. All you need is a laminator, card stock and gold leaf. For our cards (right), we used a Lowell A4 laminator ($20), Quill 200gsm card stock ($16/100 sheets), and Fimo gold leaf ($17/10 sheets) from Officeworks.
Here’s how:
1 Print your image or lettering on the card stock in black ink.
2 Place gold leaf over the design, shiny-side up, then lay a sheet of ordinary printing paper on top.
3 Pass the design through the laminator twice. Remove the printing paper and gently brush any excess gold leaf off the design using your fingers or a soft paintbrush.
GALLERY OPENING
Make a feature of your favourite photographs and artworks by hanging them in a gallery arrangement. Large, simple graphics always look elegant, especially in black and white.
For a professional effect, keep one or more aspects of the frames – colour, size or thickness – consistent. Try the Promenade 33x43cm frame in Oak, $20, or Adventure 33x43cm frame in White, $32, both from Officeworks.
