The Chalet is one of the hot holiday rentals in the popular Byron Beach Abodes’ stylish stable. Inspired by the property’s mid-century architecture and the laidback luxe of Palm Springs, part owner and creative director Taliah Lowry styled the interiors with a focus on indoor-outdoor living.

What are the key design elements of The Chalet? The sloping roofline and indoor-outdoor living focus. We wanted the pool area to feel as though it was an extension of the kitchen/dining/living area; it’s crucial for that holiday vibe.

Standout decorator pieces? The bespoke velvet sofa, porcelain benchtops, upholstered built-in seating and statement lighting. And of course, linen curtains and indoor plants – they’re the perfect finishing touch for any home.

How do you approach styling? I select a mood, style or theme as a base and add my own touch to it, often combining a few styles within the one space. I like to mix old with new and focus on texture, natural light and simplicity.

Tips for achieving this look? Restore original features then add contemporary touches. Choose one standout piece in each room as a focal point, such as the velvet sofa in the living area (below), then layer vintage with new. On the deck (above left), I used retro chairs with modern upholstery and stools.

“MY APPROACH TO STYLING IS EASY: MIX OLD WITH NEW, LESS IS MORE, QUALITY NOT QUANTITY. DON’ T BE AFRAID TO TRY DIFFERENT STYLES TOGETHER .” TALIAH LOWRY
