Answering a call for flflflexible, affordable housing, H&G’s My Ideal House build is all set to kick off, and the Mirvac construction team is raring to go.

The plans for our excit i ng My

Ideal House project have been

approved by Camden Council in NSW, clearing the way for the muchanticipated family- home build on our block of land in Sydney’s south-west.

“Building projects, large and small, are by nature complex beasts, and with a blueprint for an innovative Australian family home on the drawing board, every detail of the build is so important,” says AustralianHouse&Garden editor in chief Lisa Green. “It’s really satisfying that the plans have been speedily approved and now we can embark on the next exciting phase of this landmark project.”

Sydney architect Madeleine Blanchfield won the $25,000 design competition with a wonderfully flexible modular home

concept, which will be built by Mirvac at the masterplanned community, Crest

at Gledswood Hills.

‘THIS IS A NEW STYLE OF HOME FORM I RVAC AND WE’ RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT STARTING ON THE BUILD .’ Roderick Petre, NSW operations manager, Mirvac

The extensive concept development process ensured that the plans approved by council neatly address the competition pillars: innovation, affordability, flexibility and sustainability.

The construction team is all set to swing into action, says Roderick Petre, Mirvac’s NSW operations manager. “We have an experienced project team on the ground and they’re all set to begin the My Ideal House build,” says Petre.

“A supervisor will look after trade scheduling and workflow, as well as being responsible for material call-ups, quality control and, most importantly, health and safety.” A project manager will oversee the finances and the build program. And the construction team will proceed with a clear picture of what the house will look like and how it will perform.

With a facade of lightweight Hebel aerated autoclaved concrete, the external walls should go up quite rapidly. Likewise, the glass ‘living’ pavilion at the rear of the home, which features high-performance Viridian ‘Lightbridge’ glass, should be quick to install. Aside from allowing a strong visual connection to the garden beyond, the glass delivers outstanding thermal performance, reduced glare and noise, and security.

“The high-performance glass allows this lovely, light pavilion while still meeting energy-efficient objectives,” says Green.

My Ideal House is a special project for Mirvac, whose design and construction team have been at the table from the outset. “It’s been a great journey so far,” says Petre. “From the beginning of the process we’ve been able to contribute our expertise and experience. I’ve enjoyed the collaborative process of finding creative and innovative ways to build a home that’s ideal in every way.

“This is a new style of home for Mirvac and we’re very excited about starting on the build.” #
