Oh my! Hip, Hip Hygge (July) stirred up warm and fuzzy feelings. Keen to create my own sanctuary, I dived into the linen cupboard in search of the good stuff. Except it wasn’t there. My heart rate spiked, my head felt light… had we been burgled? Then I remembered my daughter’s recent request for my “real vintage” pieces. Solved. Several clicks, calls and credit-card outings later, my new good stuff has arrived. Here’s to hygge! Michelle Moriarty, Lennox Head, NSW

Years of service

I’ve indulged in nearly all your issues over the past 10 years of renovating. Seven months ago we moved into our latest project, a Renaissance-style home built for a European family. It’s so different from our previous, contemporary house. Your recent stories on warm tones and modern country themes continue to inspire me to tackle projects both big and small in this labour of love. Thanks for your encouragement! By the board

While poring over the July issue, I was delighted to spot on page 80 a 2017 kitchen with a sideboard from another era (Coast Modernist). We have the same sideboard, with matching table and chairs, inherited from my husband’s mother. It was made by Chiswell and sold at Anthony Horden & Sons in Sydney around the 1950s. It’s true – everything old is new again! Pam Mackenzie, Goulburn, NSW

Flying high

Wow, what a great magazine. Normally

I keep all my spare money for renovating, but I happened to flick through June H&G at the airport and had to buy it. The William Morris statement on page 15 – “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful” – sold it. This is the adage I live by. We are in the final stages of renovating a 1920s house on two hectares, much of which is taken up with gardens. The project has taken us 10 years but we now own a unique, eclectic home that retains the character of the property. When people visit, they’re stunned by the transformation. And now I have a few new ideas, thanks to your magazine. Lynne Huggins, Invercargill, NZ

Art from the heart

Each month I’m awed by the gorgeous artworks that grace the homes in your magazine. The more I read H&G, the more I believe in the power of a perfect piece of art to bring a space to life. Purchasing an original artwork is not financially feasible at the moment, so I thought I’d create my own masterpiece. After a couple of art classes, I looked for inspiration and found the May

H&G cover. The rich colours and carefully composed floral centrepiece – itself an impressive work of art – offered the perfect subject. Thanks for injecting colour into my home and helping transcend the everyday. Danielle Cox, Googong, NSW

Instant relief

I would always sneak a look at your wonderful magazine in the newsagent, but recently my husband bought me a subscription and each new issue is
