WEEKEND WORKSHOP

-

This month, H&G senior stylist Kayla Gex added another string to her bow, thanks to a floristry masterclass hosted by Sean Cook (Mr Cook Flowers), Jardine Hansen (Jardine Botanic Floral Styling) and Aleksandra Schutz (Aleksandra Flowers & Handwriting).

Lesson 1: Floral installations

“Sean talked us through the tools and steps of creating floral installations (above). His top tip? Make zip ties your best friends and don’t be afraid to mix faux flora and foliage in with the real stuff.”

Lesson 2: Spring tablescapes

“Jardine explained the importance of prepping your vessel and which materials are useful for sculpting. She suggested buying affordable plants with interesting leaves from a nursery, using cuttings in the tablescape and planting the remainder for future use.”

Lesson 3: Table centrepieces

“Aleksandra demonstrated how to use different vases, and to incorporate fruit such as apples, cut citrus and pomegranates for impact.”

Lesson 4: Floral pillar

“Sean created an elaborate pillar light in the form of roses dripping with blooms. The look was all about rich tones and pops of light roses.”

Lesson 5: Bouquets

“Jardine advised us to let interesting stem shapes lead the way. She also suggested taking a look in the mirror now and again to see your work from different perspectives.” See the Insta feed @floralmasterclasssydney
