The home’s lo­ca­tion – be­side a na­ture re­serve in the foothills of the Great Di­vid­ing Range – played a key role in the choice of ma­te­ri­als. Bush­fire-re­sis­tance was al­ways top of mind, as was the lo­cal wildlife. “We planned to use cedar win­dow frames, but cock­a­toos are no­to­ri­ous for gnaw­ing on them,” says ar­chi­tect Antony Martin. “In the end, we went for win­dows that have alu­minium out­side and Tas­ma­nian oak in­side.”
