Australian House & Garden

BEFORE YOU BUY

-

It’s easy to buy these charmers on impulse, but be sure to check a few things first: Multiples of the same plant, perhaps three or five in a garden bed, create more impact and produce a more cohesive look. The number will depend on the bed size. If there’s no garden space, any of the plants above will flourish in a pot on a terrace, balcony or outdoor table for the season. Pot them with room to grow.

Check their needs – sun, shade and climate – and position accordingly.

Prolong flower displays by deadheading (cutting off the spent flower stems) and watering with a soluble fertiliser, plus Seasol liquid seaweed, every month or so.
