waterdrops on HYDRANGEAS
Using fine-art techniques, painter Helena McConochie’s mission is to celebrate the pure beauty of flowers.
“Flowers can be appreciated by the viewer as just a flower or can be explored deeper, almost as a landscape.” – Margaret Olley
Helena McConochie has a passion for macro photography and a love of flowers. Taking the most delicate blooms, Helena carefully photographs the flowers, cropping in very closely, then “goes wild” painting them, giving them a new life in a modern context. The works of artist Georgia O’Keeffe in particular provide inspiration for Helena’s work. Helena is something of a late bloomer in the art world; after raising four daughters she embarked a journey of discovery, studying fine arts and digital techniques and becoming the artist she is today. Helena enters the Archibald Wynne and Sulman prizes each year and is being exhibited in solo exhibitions at Art2Muse, Double Bay and Aarwun Gallery, ACT in conjunction with Floriade.
