New ways to protect and pamper exposed summer skin. By

- Elisabeth King.

Caring for skin in summer is a serious business. Sun exposure is enemy number one in terms of damage, but long-term dehydration comes a close second. Your largest organ is also more prone to rashes and irritation at this time. Thankfully though, there are plenty of preventative and treatment products to beat the heat. We look at some of the latest:

1 St Tropez Gradual Tan Plus Sculpt And Glow ($36/200ml)

This multibenefit lotion contains sea algae, shea butter and hyaluronic acid to tone and nourish skin while building a sun-kissed look. Cosmetic powders help to reduce the appearance of imperfections and make areas such as legs look more contoured. Use alone or, if ‘bronzed goddess’ is the look you’re after, apply for a few days before a spray tan.

2 LUMA Beach Beauty Body Oil ($40/100ml)

Jess Hart is the poster girl for natural, pared-back beauty. The Australian supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret angel has just relaunched LUMA, her signature make-up and skincare brand. Among the treats is this dry oil spray, a non-greasy formula loaded with sweet almond, grapeseed and coconut oils. It leaves skin supple and healthylooking.

3 Crabtree & Evelyn Goatmilk & Oat Bath Milk ($35/500ml)

Summer is prime time for skin problems, especially dryness and irritation, prickly heat, sun allergies, rashes and sunburn. The main ingredients in this new product are free-range goat’s milk and oats. While they soothe any tightness and inflammation, vitamin E, lavender and geranium make for a relaxing soak.

4 Natio Revitalise Hand Balm ($15/300ml)

Air conditioning and dry outdoor heat make it difficult to keep hands hydrated in summer. This antioxidantpacked balm instantly smooths and rejuvenates. It’s fast-absorbing and non-greasy, with lime plus peppermint and bergamot oils adding an aromatherapy touch.

5 L’Occitane en Provence Shea Butter Shower Oil ($36/250ml)

Shea butter is one of the most moisturising ingredients in body care. This wash contains a generous 10 per cent shea oil, which leaves a protective film on the body after taking a shower. It makes skin feel so soft and nourished, you may not need a body lotion.

6 Antipodes Saviour Skin Balm ($20/30ml)

An all-purpose conditioning balm, this antibacterial, antifungal and antiblemish formula hydrates the driest skin. Containing Vinanza grape extract (a potent antioxidant derived from grapes), tea tree oil and healing totara, it rejuvenates a rollcall of skin conditions: shaving rash, chapped lips, cracked heels, sunburn and much more.
