Seasonal Bouquets The latest iterations of classic perfumes.

Classic fragrances are the black dresses of the fragrance world. These new interpretations will add some colour to your wardrobe, writes Elisabeth King.

New fragrances can be so tempting in-store, but straying from your signature can be discombobulating, like a radical change of hair colour or style. But there’s good news if you’re in the mood to mix it up: many of the most-loved florals form the backbone of the new-season releases. Here are some of our favourites:

1

Vera Wang For Her ($89) Sensual white flowers – jasmine, gardenia, lily and tuberose

– are the key to the success of many classic scents. Bulgarian rose adds a passionate touch to the purity of gardenia, lotus, iris and jasmine in this great-value fragrance, but not so much that you can’t wear it during the day.

Try this if you like Lancôme La Vie Est Belle,

Yves Saint Laurent Paris or Givenchy Amarige.

2

Jo Malone English Fields ($98 each)

A limited-edition collection of five fragrances that showcases what Jo Malone does best. English meadows are the inspiration for Poppy & Barley, Primrose & Rye, Oat & Cornflower, Honey & Crocus and Green Wheat & Meadowsweet. A highly original concept with the inclusion of earthy grains.

Wet Garden or

Diptyque L’Ombre

Dans L’Eau. 3

Elie Saab Le Parfum In White (from $101) This divine fragrance nails the radiance of white florals with a bouquet of jasmine sambac and orange blossom absolute, partnered with a base of white musk and the freshness of pear and blackcurrant. Seriously lovely.

Try this if you like Estée Lauder Beautiful, Annick Goutal Gardenia Passion or Balmain Ivoire.

4

Chloé Nomade (from $99) With a floral chypre composition, this scent packs a bolder punch than the soft, flowery original. Voluptuous fruity notes of peach and mirabelle plum balance a grown-up freesia and rose-dominated heart. Don’t spritz just before you run out the door – the sandalwood, musk and amberwood dry-down needs time to develop its depth and strength.

Try this if you like Chanel No 19, Miss Dior or Hermès Caleche. 5

Giorgio Armani Sì Passione (from $149) Pink pepper adds spice to this spin on

Sì, but it’s lighter than the original, thanks to rose, jasmine and heliotrope middle notes. Luscious pear and blackcurrant teamed with sensual vanilla and cedar is the key to a fragrance as distinctive as the fire-engine red bottle.

Try this if you like Amor Amor by Cacharel, Estée Lauder Pleasures or Gucci Guilty for Women.

6

Mugler Aura (from $99) French designer Thierry Mugler’s love-it-or-leave-it attitude paid off with Angel and Alien, and Aura (in the asymmetrical green bottle) follows suit. A punchy aromatic that lasts for hours (go easy!), it’s initially green with rhubarb leaf before warming up with bourbon vanilla and woodsy notes. For those who don’t want to smell like everyone else.

Try this if you like Guerlain Shalimar, Narciso Rodriguez for Her or Tom Ford Black Orchid.
