FIRST ADULT HOME? Jason and I bought a terrace in Sydney’s Paddington in 2009, which we renovated with Brooke.
BUCKET-LIST DESTINATION? We booked a house in Mallorca for my 50th in 2020 – then Covid hit. A year later and our family and friends in Australia still couldn’t travel to celebrate with us so we ended up going alone for a week. It wasn’t quite the trip we had envisioned but it was still pretty special. Next on the bucket list would be Sri Lanka.
DREAM RESTAURANT TABLE? La Panaderia by Sarah in Oleiros, Spain, with my closest family and friends. The talented chef, Sarah Stothart, converted an old bakery into a 15-seat dinner club where she creates the daily menu based on what she finds in the local market. Sarah also happens to be a darling childhood friend.
DREAM CAR? When I met Jason, he was driving a white 1969 Mercedes 280SL (8) – endlessly cool and always my dream car.
We sold it when we moved back to Sydney in 2008, when I thought we’d never return to live in California. Yep, that’s a regret. DESIGNERS AND ARCHITECTS WHO INSPIRE YOU? Tadao Ando and James Turrell are firm favourites. We visited Mexico City 15 years ago and a visit to Casa Estudio Barragan (6) changed the way I looked at light and colour and their use in a home.
FAVOURITE ARTISTS? Cornelia Parker – she juxtaposes and distorts all sorts of recognisable items and gets it so right. Also Ruth Asawa for her impressive hanging wire sculptures (4) and clay face masks. I’ve also just finished watching the Andy Warhol Diaries on Netflix, which reignited my love for Andy Warhol (1) and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
NUMBER-ONE DOWNTIME PURSUIT? Long doggy walks or jogging through our neighbourhood, in the adjacent lands to Stanford University. I listen to podcasts or my favourite music of the moment.
FAVOURITE PODCASTS? Pod Save America, WTF with Marc Maron.
FAVOURITE FASHION LABELS? I love bringing a bit of Australia back home with me so I always have Scanlan & Theodore and WeAreKindred in my return luggage. My favourite summer outfit right now is Issey Miyake pants, Raey top all in black with my green Dries Van Noten sandals (5), Lisou shirts (2) for colour, with Helmut Lang trousers. Mostly I just knock about in jeans and a t-shirt though.
FAVOURITE VASE FILLER? If only I could fill my house with vases with tuberoses (7). Most often it’s a mix of California wildflowers, or whatever happens to be in season.
I’M COVETING... The Totem floor lamp (3) by Allied Maker. I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT... My Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine.
NEXT MAJOR PURCHASE FOR THE HOME? I have a
Ligne Roset ‘Togo’ chair (9) on order with a very long lead time
(52 weeks!). That is satisfying my itch for new stuff. #
