SUMMIT CYCLES TOP SIX MOST USEFUL TOOLS
Joe Dodd and Chris Herron not only put together our Workshop section each issue, but they are also the people on the tools at Summit Cycles in Sydney. When asked what their five most useful tools were in the shop, they were quick to respond - and gave us six.
ONE
QUICK LINK PLIERS – you need these to undo quick links, and really there’s not much else that does it properly.
TWO
Summit Cycles build most of the wheels on the bikes in their shop, so the PARK TOOL NIPPLE DRIVER is used many times every day. It’s far easier to use than a screwdriver for getting the nipple wound onto the spoke, thanks to the offset handle.
THREE
The PARK TOOL UP-1 is essentially a sharpened spoke, ideal for prying seals, scraping grime away, piercing rim tape for a valve and opening up cable outer after cutting.
FOUR
The PARK TOOL I.R-1.2 is a guide for internal routing. A string with a magnet helps pull cables or outer through the frame. With so many frames using internal routing, and lots of dropper post installs, the workshop would slow down a lot without this tool.
FIVE
Joe and Chris trust the PARK TOOL TW-5 TORQUE WRENCH. As any good mechanic will tell you, taking guess work out is important.
SIX
The self fashioned bottle opener primarily gets used on Thursdays and Saturdays – but is still an essential part of the Summit Cycles workshop.
