MOUNTAIN BIKING, YOUR WAY

- WORDS: MIKE BLEWITT PHOTO: S. LORENCE

In a time where mountain biking is pushing further towards the boundaries on every spectrum, it can be hard to find where you fit. Are you a trail rider, and if so – what does that mean? If you prefer to bomb the descents does that make you ‘enduro’? So what if your fun comes from keeping your wheels on the ground and spending all the daylight hours exploring? Would you be pretty happy if you only ride flow trails, and didn’t have to negotiate rocky, off-camber natural trails again? That’s your choice. It’s all your choice. The more our sport grows, the more mountain biking diversifies. Here at we obviously love mountain biking, and I personally think a mountain bike can be one of the best ways to see your local area, a new place – or the world. To me, a mountain bike is a ticket to freedom and opens up a whole world of possibilities. Beyond the coverage from the Downhill and Cross-Country National Series and National Championships, this issue of is full of stories about exploring by bike. From the near-endless, exposed, high alpine trails in the east of Switzerland, to the more contained Noosa Trail Network. And from action-packed itineraries around Cairns, through to luxury mountain bike escapes in Tasmania. How you ride your mountain bike and interract with the great outdoors is up to you, and these are just a few great options for seeing some amazing parts of our country, and the world, by bike. And that’s why we are all more than stoked on the subscription offer we have been able to put together with Switzerland Tourism and Reho Travel. You have to look at the details on p20, but when you subscribe, or update your subscription, you can enter to win a dream holiday in the Swiss Alps. With return airfares for two, first class rail travel, BMC mountain bikes to use and accommodaiton in Swiss Bike Hotels in both Grindelwald and Zermatt. Yes Zermatt, where the final of the Enduro World Series will be held in September 2019. This is an epic prize and all of us at and our partners with the prize are so excited that a lucky subscriber (and a friend!) is going to get the chance to win it. So go on, see the world by bike. Or your backyard. But get out and enjoy it, in whatever way mountain biking works for you.
