Muscle Mail AMC BEST LETTER

-

The reader’s letter that is judged to be the best in each issue will win a Meguiar’s detailing pack. Seeing

the photo in Out Of Action ( AMC #81) of Justin Rooke’s John Goss Special Falcon, I know just how Justin feels.

I had a similar occurrence with my 1973 HQ GTS Monaro sedan while giving way at a roundabout in Georgetown, Tasmania back in April.

A young learner driver got it wrong while going around, came over the median strip and into the right-hand front of my HQ.

Did I tell the young girl off? No. The damage was already done, so there was no point. I just gave her a hug, told her it was all right. She was upset and felt bad enough as it was.

Luckily her grandfather was insured through Shannons, who I am with too. The damage is nowhere near that done to the Goss XB, but disappointing to have it happen. At least, I was able to drive it home after jacking the car up, removing the wheel and beating the guard out to clear the wheel.

We had just been to a club barbeque. Thanks must go out to the members of the Monaro and GM Club of Tasmania members for their help, especially, Robert from Georgetown, who went home and came back with a trolley-jack and some hammers to effect quick repairs.

See before and after photos. It does not look like much damage, but was a hard enough hit to move the front over 10 to 20mm and jam the bonnet to prevent it from being opened.

Just waiting for repairs. It has been

One good turn...

hard to find a good original guard. ED: Great attitude, Kerry. Because one good turn deserves another, a Meguiar’s detailing pack will no doubt come in handy when your GTS is back from the panel shop. Meguiar’s has also provided a car care kit for JGS owner Justin. We hope he gets to use it on his repaired JGS soon.
