speed freak Carey McMa­hon, de­buted his 1990 ex-Tony Longhurst RS500 Sierra in a very spec­tac­u­lar man­ner in the Her­itage Tour­ing Car cat­e­gory at the re­cent Phillip Is­land Clas­sic. McMa­hon snared pole po­si­tion and scored a very pop­u­lar race win just eight weeks af­ter buy­ing the car.

That’s a su­per-quick race prep turn­around for the car that fi­nally broke ‘Farmer Ge­orge’ Fury’s 1984 qual­i­fy­ing lap record at Bathurst. McMa­hon’s #20 Sierra struck is­sues later in the meet­ing but was quick while it lasted. This made life eas­ier for Tony Al­ford (GIO Nis­san GT-R) who bagged four wins over the week­end. CD
