Auction Update

-

This

issue hits newsstands amid a very busy period for auction houses. A well presented ‘Yellow Dolly’ 1973 Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1 sold at Shannon’s Melbourne Autumn Classic Auction in early May for $47,000, while a restored Starlight Blue metallic 1970 Ford XW Fairmont V8 sedan brought $31,000.

Interestingly, the first GT-HO Phase III that’s gone up for auction in quite some time was passed in at $480,000 just moments after the opening bid of $450,000. However, this stunner sold soon after the auction for a figure around the half-million dollar mark.

This very car was used by FPV in advertising for the new-age GT back in 2004. In fact, AMC attended the shoot up at Mount Panorama for a story published in issue #14.

The vendor had owned this matching numbers car for the past 25 years, having restored it in 1998. It was delivered new by Murray Ford of Ipswich, Queensland in June, 1971.

Shannon’s Sydney Autumn Auction was scheduled for Monday, May 30 with the two Holden showstoppers being a car that Peter Brock drove and one that he wanted to build. The former is the Holden VK Commodore ‘SS’ Group 3 Sedan that was the nine-time Bathurst winner’s personal car for a period while he ran HDT Special Vehicles. It’s being offered for sale by its second owner, who purchased it directly from Brock, accompanied by the letter confirming its provenance.

The latter is the 1984 Opel Monza Coupe PB developed as the prototype of a future HDT Special Vehicle.

For blue-bloods there’s a XC Falcon Cobra Coupe (build #77), which is still equipped with its original 351 V8 and four-speed manual transmission.

Mopar maniacs are also catered for with a spectacular yellow 1973 Chrysler VJ Valiant Charger E48 coupe that is enticingly being offered with ‘no reserve’.
