Ford XY Fairmont Grand Sport Onyx Black
The Grand Sport Rally Pack was a factory option available on a range of models, from the XW to XC. With a tick of a box on the order form the customer could add several sporty features to his (or her) new Falcon without going to the expense of buying the GT. The features included GS side stripe and badging, GS insignia on a three spoke - deep dished steering wheel, GT dash featuring speedometer, tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, water temperature and fuel gauges, stainless steel wheel covers.
It was available on the Falcon 500, Futura and Fairmont sedans and wagon. The actual GS options remained the same, including the GT dash, but some other items crept onto the general option list, like sunroof and a stereo radio/tape player. For performance enthusiasts, the most important option was now a 250hp two barrel carburettor equipped Cleveland version of the 351ci V8. From there the customer could add anything that was available in the catalogue. Ford advertised the GS as “Make up your own Grand Sport” and, while the car did not have the appeal of the GT, it did offer the cost conscious a distinctive alternative. The detailed front end features engraved headlights, spotlights and indicators, as well as the nely nished grille and bumper. The boot interior features a nely moulded soft rubber boot mat; note the fuel pipe extending from the fuel tank to the body. The 302 engine and surrounding bay have an amazing level of detail, including etched metal bonnet hinges, nely moulded hoses, tubing and ne graphics.Superb chassis detail featuring working suspension and steering.
