Australian Muscle Car

Out of Action

-

Some muscle cars are bought by loving owners who pamper them like members of the family. Other muscle cars, though, aren’t so lucky. Some get stolen, smashed or thrashed. Some get parked and lost under a layer of dust in an old shed, others get left outside to brave the elements and slowly rust away. Sad, but true. We eyeball plenty of beautifully maintained and/or fully restored muscle classics in AMC, but as serious car pervs we have to admit there’s few things more intriguing – or exciting – than spotting an old classic in a paddock, or a shed, or under a shady tree, that’s seen better days and in need of some TLC. Some are beyond saving, but they all have a story to tell.

So, get out your cameras and start snapping some old muscle cars you come across in your travels that are de nitely Out of Action, or close to it.

We don’t want to know where they are and we won’t be publishing speci c locations, because above all we must respect people’s privacy. Please note: we don’t publish images we suspect involved the act of trespassing. We just want to see some good, clean pics of these forgotten cars and short personal stories to go with them.

Hi guys,

On a recent trip to country NSW I came across this poor old XA coupe which I thought would be an ideal candidate for Out of Action. It was very rusty due to being in a fire at some time and had pieces hacked out of it, and not to mention a lot of rust in the sills and floor pan. Surprisingly the rear tail light panel was in good nick, as were the bumpers. It didn’t look like it had been there long so hopefully it’s a project that will make its way back to life one day. John Hi,

These are images from a recent trip to the old Eyre Highway, Nullarbor Plain, South Australia.

I found this XB Falcon Panel van east on the old road between Nullarbor Roadhouse and the old Ivy Tanks site. The compliance plate was gone only a chassis number check (by SAPOL later) showed that it had been owned by some community members and had been simply abandoned. From the looks of the bonnet it may have been a V8 or GS pack six.

Richard This old speedway FJ was dragged out of a gully up near Alexandra, Victoria. It spent most of its life racing a round that area. Windowless HX van going by the tag was an original V8 but the rust has eaten her inside out up in country NSW.

Ok not great photos but what is half buried is a Mazda RX-3. It was involved in a road accident when new and was taken up to a farm in the highlands of Victoria and buried, along with a couple of old Holdens

Mick
