Australian Muscle Car

Classic Carlectables brings us a pair of Bathurst homologation Fords, the Cortina GT500 and the final GT-HO Phase III, while from Biante comes Peter Brock’s ’78 Sandown 400 Torana A9X.

Bosworth’s was the best of them. The model captures the very standard level of preparation really well – by showing the very basic interior and engine bay. Bo made up the licence plates with masking tape – ARM 500 referring to the race being called the Armstrong 500. Interestingly, the very winning car was used for a magazine road test the next week! When the tester turned on the headlights (one of which was broken in the race) the resulting electrical short stopped the car. Good thing it didn’t get dark that day, eh? There will be 1500 examples of this model from Classic Carlectables, hopefully available just in time for Christmas this year.

HDT Holden Torana A9X #05 Peter Brock 1978 Sandown 400 winner

New from Biante Model Cars is this Holden Dealer Team Peter Brock Holden Torana A9X in ’78 Sandown 400-winning trim. In that year’s pre-Bathurst enduro Brock led home a decisive one-two with HDT team-mate John Harvey nishing second, as the Moffat Ford Dealer opposition collapsed. It was not a good omen for the Moffat Ford camp after a frustrating ‘78 sprint race season, and unfortunately it was only a portent of more misery to come once they got to the Mountain for The Great Race. This 1:18 model is die cast, and as the pics show it comes with opening doors, bonnet and hatch, and boasts some very ne detail. As ever, head to Patto’s Place for those missing decals – or simply enjoy the unadorned yet iconic red/ white HDT livery. Available for pre-order at $300 each.
