Samyang Lenses For Canon RF And Nikon Z
South Korean lens-maker Samyang has followed up its first lenses for
Canon’s EOS R full-35mm mirrorless camera system with the same models for the Nikon Z mount.
Currently, Samyang is offering two lenses in the RF and Z mounts, both manual focus primes with weather-sealed external constructions and smart new styling.
The first is a 14mm f2.8 ultra wide-angle which gives an expansive angle-of-view of 115.7 degrees on the 35mm format sensor. The optical construction comprises 14 elements in ten groups which includes seven special types – one aspherical, one hybrid aspherical, two made from optical glass with extra-low dispersion characteristics, and three with high refractive index characteristics. The minimum focusing distance is 28 centimetres and the MF 14mm f2.8 RF weighs in at 800 grams while the Z mount version is ten grams heavier and fractionally longer. The all-metal barrels feature an integrated petal-type lens hood.
Samyang’s second RF/Z mount lens is an 85mm f1.4 short telephoto and its super-fast maximum aperture delivers a very shallow depth-of-field to enable selective focusing for creative effect. The optical construction employs nine elements in seven groups which includes one hybrid aspherical type to correct for distortion. The minimum focusing distance is one metre and this lens has an eight-blade diaphragm to create more rounded, smoother out-offocus effects. The RF mount version weighs 730 grams and is 98.7 millimetres in length while the Z mount lens is again ten grams heavier. It measures 102.7 millimetres.
Both the RF and Z mount lenses feature Samyang’s ‘Ultra Multi-Coating’ (UMC) to minimise internal reflections, thereby reducing both ghosting and flare.
Both lenses are also quite affordable, with the MF 14mm f2.8 priced at $699 and the MF 85mm f1.4 at $599.
Samyang lenses are distributed in Australia by Maxxum Pty Ltd.
