Australian T3

Editor’s letter

T3 looks forward to an age where robot butlers can handle all of all our chores so we can relax and have more fun.

The first step toward them being a standard smart-home fixture is being able to communicate with them easily, and 2017 is shaping up to be the year of voice communication. Enter, Amazon Echo and Google Home.

These voice-activated speakers have the potential to enhance our lives by picking up the slack on grocery shopping, for example, or boost our productivity by managing our busy schedules. The potential with such high-powered, voice activated assistants is massive, and we’re only just scratching the surface. In this issue’s cover feature we look at this life-enhancing home tech to help you get to grips on how it can serve you.

What would you do with all of that extra time? Well, say hello to the Nintendo Switch to fill it with entertainment, both at home and on the go. While Nintendo’s success with the Wii U was a little stunted, the Switch sees the Japanese giant innovating and offering something that no-one else is doing. We’ve played it, love it, and we’re excited to show it off in our massive feature on p58. While you’re there, check out the launch titles (and those due in the coming months).

And, keep your crystal ball handy, as we also showcase the best future tech due to dominate the rest of 2017. The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas heralded a raft of new trends and exciting gear, and T3 was there to pick out the best and the most outlandish. A three-screen laptop, anyone? You’ll see that and more on p42. Enjoy the issue. Paul Taylor, Editor paul.taylor03@futurenet.com
