Editor’s letter
ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER 100 ISSUE. I have now overseen quite a few of these very special editions and, honestly, the whole process never gets old. That’s because without a doubt, I always find out something new when all the research is finished, the writing is done and the images and words have been married up on the pages of the magazine. For example, this year I discovered that I seriously need to check out Kyneton in Victoria, which made it into the top 10 foodie destinations in the country; and I learned that the Abrolhos Islands (on the top 10 list of idyllic islands) actually existed off the West Australian coast, having been ignorant of the fact for some four decades. This year’s challenge was to find the absolute best places to hang out in across the country; the places that are worth lingering longer to get a real sense of their unique appeal. I think we managed to pull together a pretty impressive list, touching on many different passion points, from the camping destinations that will make you want to pitch a tent and never leave to the inner-city neighbourhoods that you probably pass through on your way from here to there, but should definitely stop in, and the outback locales that allow you to experience an alternative day-to-day existence than you are used to. As with all 100 editions I have worked on, there are always so many entries that didn’t quite make it this time, more as a result of our finite brief than lack of merit. But this issue’s loss is another issue’s gain, so we hope you love this 100 and keep coming back for the hundreds of destinations we are equally excited to show you.
