From the ground up Seasoned to perfection
When it comes to creating great tasting snacks, Tyrrells knows the importance of local provenance and using the finest ingredients
Food shopping has been different for all of us these past few months, but one pleasant upside has been the way we’ve all relied more on our local communities to source the food we love. Whether you’ve had a go at growing your own, found a new local farm shop or taken part in exchanges or honesty boxes, it’s been great to take a bit more notice of where our food comes from.
Quintessentially British crisp brand Tyrrells knows better than anyone about sourcing locally. Its tasty crisps are made using potatoes that are locally grown, cooked and turned into crisps at Tyrrells Court Farm in Herefordshire, where the brand was originally founded. So you know you’re getting the best that Britain has to offer.
When you open a packet of Tyrrells hand-cooked potato crisps, it’s not just any potato you’re eating – in fact it depends on the time of year and the crop cycle. Between July and November, for instance, you’ll be tucking into a bag of crisps that are mainly made with Lady Rosetta potatoes, with their beautiful pale flesh and vibrant red skin. The rest of the year, the delicious crisps are created using Lady Claire or the big, bold Taurus potatoes, along with a few other varieties.
During the summer months, the freshly harvested potatoes are delivered directly to Tyrrells Court Farm, where they are turned into delicious crisps. Here, the expert fryers cook them in small batches, turning them by hand, making sure every single crisp is cooked to perfection.
Lightly tumbled in seasoning, the finest ingredients are used to create the flavours we all know and love, including favourites Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar, Mature Cheddar & Chive and Sweet Chilli & Red Pepper. So next time you want the perfect summer snack, why not pick up a packet?
