DES IGNE RS BRODERICK ELY, ANDREW PIVA & JONATHON BOUCHER “Winner of Best Residential Bathroom Design in the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards 2017, this bathroom sits in a residence that is distinguished by its use of three types of granite: for the facade as well as the interiors. Pushing the use of a singular material, we were able to create subtle variations and intricate details where a slightly changed finish makes the same material fit for a different application. This required thinking of atypical applications for the stone, working with our suppliers to push custom fabrications and technologies. This particularly applied to the curving bath and basins, which were custom designed to be engineered from solid pieces of stone. The baths and basins are textured by hand on the outside face and honed internally and were inspired by a baptismal font in Rome. Solid stone shelves are built into the walls to house items in daily use and a solid stone bench built into the shower offers extra comfort. The stone is naturally hard-wearing and sealed to be suitable for multiple purposes. Lighting has been fitted to the room and it functions with specialty high-power lights recessed into the mirrors.” What luxury item did you choose for this space regardless of budget? “The Japanese garden with the outdoor shower adds to the sense of luxury.
