THE ARTIST WHO HAS BEEN AN ENDURING INFLUENCE? Brâncusi [6]. CONTEMPORARY ART YOU MOST ADMIRE? Paintings by Fabienne Verdier, Gerhard Richter [4], Giorgio Celiberti. Functional art: Ingrid Donat [9]. Classical contemporary: David Hockney [7]. DO YOU COLLECT ANYTHING? Too much and I’m trying to edit my collections! Even as a child I had an eye for the best of treasures. When I was 17 I bought a Picasso drawing at auction for $400. FASHION MUST HAVES? Good jewellery, mostly necklaces [5] and bracelets. Gold is my metal of choice. FAVOURITE WATCH? My precious mother’s Rolex Oyster [11]. FRAGRANCE OF CHOICE? In winter: ‘Bal à Versailles’ [10]. In summer a favourite scent is Atkinsons lavender soap, which I buy in Milan. My grandfather was a nose: a creator of perfume, so I am very sensitive to fragrance. BOOKS WHAT ARE YOU READING NOW BOTH FICTION AND ART/ DESIGN? On my next long ight I will bring The Hare with Amber Eyes. Reading/studying about the painter Magritte [8]. BEST DOWNTIME IF YOU EVER HAVE ANY PURSUIT? I have little downtime and love living fast-paced. JANUS et Cie gives me energy and quenches my zest for life. I recently had a bit of a rest at my beach house in Carpinteria, CA. I had a lovely massage on the deck just above the sand and then a swim in the Paci c! COFFEE OR TEA? Tea from herbs in my garden. I just wash them and throw them into a pot: mint, fennel, verbena, thyme. ENTERTAINING AT HOME AND RESTAURANT OF CHOICE? At home is my rst choice. Also at Restaurant André in Singapore. PREFERRED TIPPLE? I very much enjoy a glass of Champagne [1]. FILMS THAT HAVE INSPIRED YOU? Lion; The Garden of the FinziContinis, Sophie’s Choice, The Pianist [13], Life is Beautiful. SHOPS YOU FREQUENT? Bell’occhio in San Francisco is my favourite. It is a little shop with antiques, curiosities and beautiful stationery. MAGAZINES YOU READ REGULARLY? Departures and design magazines. JANUS et Cie has partnered with AD for many years. DOES YOUR LOVE OF FASHION AND DESIGN EXTEND TO CARS? I love cars and have an af nity for French automobile manufacturer Talbot-lago [12]. The shape of these vintage cars is inspiring. TRAVEL FAVOURITE REGULAR HAUNT AND WHERE IS ON YOUR MUST SEE LIST? Venice, Italy, during the off-season: it is especially nice in the heart of winter. My must-see places are Patagonia and Tasmania [2], to which I am planning a trip. WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW? JANUS et Cie is known for creating handcrafted, design-savvy outdoor furniture [3] and it is important to us to constantly bring innovative products to market. I am always working on new collections for the company from outdoor products that look just as great inside the home to unique accessories and imaginative textiles. Personally I am painting, drawing and working on my garden(s), hoping to grow even more perfect purple tomatoes at my home in California. I am also improving my swimming distance and stroke. janusetcie.com
