IS THERE AN ARTIST WHO HAS BEEN AN ENDURING INFLUENCE? Henri Matisse [1], Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti. CONTEMPORARY ART THAT YOU MOST ADMIRE? Kate Tucker sculptures [3]; paintings by James Drinkwater [17] and Clara Adolphs. DO YOU COLLECT ANYTHING? Fabric offcuts, material samples, and colour swatches for client mood boards and inspiration for my collections. Stacks of design books for reference and for styling spaces. WHAT ARE YOUR FASHION MUST-HAVES? A classic white shirt, highwaisted denim jeans, Chanel slingbacks [15] and a tailored blazer. I would love to invest in a suit from Patrick Johnson Femme [10]. FAVOURITE WATCH? Cartier tank [13].
FRAGRANCE OF CHOICE? Editions de Parfums by Frédéric Malle ‘Portrait of a Lady’ [11].
BOOKS – WHAT ARE YOU READING RIGHT NOW? Inside Tangier [8], Pierre Yovanovitch Interior Architecture [7].
MUSIC – WHAT’S ON ROTATION AT OFFICE AND HOME? With an eight-month-old baby, I’ve mostly been listening to nursery rhymes. FAVOURITE FLOWERS? Nothing staged. Something foraged like garden roses en masse [5].
DO YOU ENTERTAIN AT HOME? I love to cook for family and friends, usually something involving the Le Creuset that can go straight from the stove to the middle of the table. A slow-cooked ragu is on my to-do list this winter.
WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED TIPPLE? Australian chardonnay, especially Saveterre [6] from Victoria, and Tyrrell’s Vat 47 from the Hunter. FILMS THAT HAVE INSPIRED YOU? The Talented Mr Ripley [2] with classic mid-century fashion in chic, casual linens and pastels, set against the chalky white buildings and spectacular scenery of coastal Italy.
SHOPS AND ONLINE STORES YOU FREQUENT? I do the Potts Point circuit when sourcing for clients and shoots, 1stdibs for vintage treasures, The Future Perfect for the latest from emerging designers, The Vault Sydney for revamped antiques, Mecca for pampering [14]. MAGAZINES YOU READ REGULARLY? AD, World of Interiors, Belle, Wallpaper*, T magazine and Cabana.
TRAVEL – FAVOURITE REGULAR HAUNT AND WHERE IS ON YOUR MUST-SEE LIST? My ideal getaway is a family holiday at Blueys Beach on the NSW mid-north coast, where we have a fibro beach shack. We usually have a big seafood stew with fish caught by my brothers and cooked up by my mother.
LIST A FEW OBJECTS OF DESIRE YOU WOULD BUY RIGHT NOW? Ash NYC ‘Pillow’ chair [12], Loewe bag [16] and Jasmine and Will PJs [4] because we are spending so much time at home.
WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO? My siblings and I have just released a collection of handmade plaster lamps [9] inspired by the sculptural forms of Mediterranean architecture and earthenware. We are also launching our own hand-painted, striped linen fabrics which will be used for the lampshades and coordinating soft furnishings. lucymontgomery.com
