CULTURE TRIP
Samoan-New Zealander artist Christopher Ulutupu’s cinematic trilogy, The Romantic Picturesque (still, right), draws on exoticised postcard depictions of Pacific Island people and landscapes to explore the performance of identity, cultural stereotyping and the effects of colonisation and diaspora. Distilled from staged encounters between palagi (foreigners) and Pacific Islanders, the work forms part of a joint show with American artists Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin titled ‘Attention Tourist’.
