Better Homes and Gardens (Australia)

G’day there!

-

Join Pete, Jason and me as we explore this amazing home on BHG TV, Friday, October 20, at 7pm on Channel 7. LOVE THE LANDSCAPE Nautilus is a wonderful example of a simple plant palette and the use of common materials to great effect.

With the luxury of space, the gardens have been broken up into different areas or rooms, including the long boardwalk lined with ‘Teddy Bear’ magnolias and gardenias – the perfume would be sublime when they’re in flower!

Courtyards and level changes create interest, and a rolling lawn of Nullarbor Couch could easily accommodate large crowds for parties, or be the home ground for a summer full of cricket.

The plant selection is uncomplicated. Lilly pillies line all the boundary fences as hedging, providing hardy evergreen structure. Gymea lilies also feature prominently in the garden, which is a nice touch as they aren’t just Australian natives, but are endemic to the southern shire of Sydney.

Buxus hedging provides privacy and direction around the garden. Buxus balls, planted en masse, provide real punch and draw your eye, but my favourite plant in this entire garden is a buxus cloud tree that’s over 50 years old and adds real wow factor. Planted in a prominent spot, you can admire it from every angle and look through it to the water views. Nautilus is a credit to all involved.
