STEP 6 Mark positions of cross rails (F) on side rails (G). Cross rails nearest each end sit across side rails and 205mm from ends. Other cross rails sit along them flush with 1 edge. Make 2 of these meet each end cross rail and space remaining ones evenly. Drill 6.5mm clearance holes at each cross rail position.

STEP 7 Assemble bed frame using 100mm batten screws.

STEP 8 At 1 end of bed rail uprights (H), cut 89mm long and 25mm deep rebate across wide face. At opposite end, cut off top corner on opposite face to rebate. Place rebate over outside of 1 side rail on bed frame. Using 50mm decking screws, fix an upright about 250mm from each end, ensuring the screws won’t hit batten screws in bed frame. Attach 2 more uprights equally spaced between those at ends.

STEP 9 Place bookcases in position. Lift bed frame onto bookcases so side with rail uprights is against wall. Make ends of frame flush with backs of bookcases, clamp and screw together.

STEP 10 Assemble bedhead. Make 1 bedhead shelf (I) flush with top end of bedhead sides (J) and space next shelf so they are 340mm apart. At bottom ends of bedhead sides, cut a 90mm high x 45mm deep rebate in front corners. Install bedhead front (K) between this rebate and bottom shelf flush with front edge. Screw bedhead back (L) to this assembly.

STEP 11 Slot bedhead into end of frame on top of bookcase with full back. STEP 13
