You will need
• 5.1 metres total assorted gingham in aqua, green, red, navy, blue and tan
• 1 metre pink gingham for binding
• 3.7 metres of natural cotton linen for blocks background, sashing and border.

5 – 4½ inch squares

30 – 2½ x 8½ inch rectangles

Assembling blocks
STEP 1 Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of 8 matching gingham 2½ inch squares.
STEP 2 Align a marked gingham square with 1 end of a natural linen 2½ x 4½ inch rectangle (Diagram 1 – note direction of drawn line). Sew together on drawn line. Trim seam allowance to ¼ inch and press open attached triangle. Add a second marked gingham square to opposite end of rectangle to make a Flying Geese unit. The unit should be 2½ x 4½ inches, including seam allowances. Repeat to make 4 matching Flying Geese units.
STEP 3 Referring to Diagram 2, lay out 4 natural linen 2½ inch squares, 4 Flying Geese units, and 1 matching gingham 4½ inch square in 3 rows. Sew together pieces in each row. Join rows to make a Sawtooth Star block. The block should be 8½ inches square, including seam allowances.
STEP 4 Using remaining gingham 2½ inch and 4½ inch squares and natural linen 2½ inch squares and 2½ x 4½ inch rectangles, repeat steps 1-3 to make 5 Sawtooth Star blocks in each of the 6 colourways to make a total of 30 blocks.
Assembling quilt top
STEP 5 Referring to Quilt assembly diagram, lay out blocks and natural linen rectangles in 5 vertical rows. Mix colours as desired and start oddnumbered rows with a block. Sew together pieces in rows. Press seams towards triangles.
STEP 6 Join natural linen 2½ inch x WOF strips to make six – 2½ x 60½ inch sashing strips and two – 2½ x 52½ inch border strips.
STEP 7 Alternate pieced rows and natural linen 2½ x 60½ inch strips; sew together to make quilt centre. Press seams towards sashing strips. STEP 8 Add natural linen strips to top and bottom edges TOAPQ complete quilt top.
