Fabulous hair

Here are four ways to keep your locks looking like you’ve just stepped out of the salon, even if it’s your own bathroom

-

1 wash with care

Dyed hair needs products designed to gently clean and preserve its colour. Harsh shampoos may cause fading or, worse, turn it brassy.

1 Enhance hair texture and shine, Colour Protect Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo, 700ml, $14.95, L’oréal.

2 Help coloured brown hair look gorgeous, Brilliant Brunette Colour Protecting Moisturising Shampoo, $15.99, John Frieda.

3 Strengthen and revive your hair, Phyto-caffeine Shampoo for coloured and stressed hair, $18.99, Plantur 39.

4 Brighten and tone white, silver or blonde hair and reduce yellowing, Blonde Bombshell Shampoo with Argan Oil, $9.99, Models Prefer.

2 spray and save

Even with the use of a good shampoo, a colour will gradually fade the more often you wash your hair. So dry shampoo is your saviour. It not only allows you to skip a wash, in doing so it reduces the fading caused by constant shampooing. Simply spray onto dry hair at the roots and let it absorb the dirt and oil.

1 Delay the need to wash dark hair, Dry Shampoo with Nettle Tinted for brown to dark oily hair, $15.95,

100ml, Klorane. 2 Add volume and

bounce to your hair without rewashing and blowdrying, Heavenly Volume Dry Shampoo $12.95, Batiste.

3 drop the heat

The use of hot water while shampooing, and high heat while styling, both play havoc with hair, and they don’t do a colour any favours either. Reduce their impact by lowering the water temp and always use a heat protection spray before styling.

1 Shield hair from the damaging effects of heat styling and lock in more shine, Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray, $11.49, Tresemmé.

2 Spray evenly over hair or spritz over dry hair before using a curling iron or straightener, Heat Protection Mist, $15.99, Toni&guy.

4 hide the evidence

If you have a permanent colour, un-dyed hair will become more visible as your hair grows but there’s an effective way to keep your colour looking fresh. As soon as the regrowth is too noticeable, especially along the part line and around your face, spray it with a temporary root cover-up and repeat between washes. Instantly cover regrowth and greys with one of the six colour options, Root touch-up, $14.99, Clairol.
