Add these eats to your everyday life and reap the rewards

-

the more you learn about fuelling your body with the good stuff, the less sense it makes to live on junk and fast food. Eating stuff in boxes with added sugar and a long list of sketchy ingredients is easy in the moment. But down the line? Not so much! These foods tick all the right boxes – they’re delicious and deliver pretty amazing health benefits, so add them to your everyday eats and reap the rewards.

1 BLUEBERRIES

Rich in powerful antioxidants, blueberries contain anthocyanins, plant compounds that protect against inflammation and promote brain health. See also black raspberries, elderberries, black plums, and red and purple cabbage.

2 SILVERBEET

So pretty! So packed with goodness! Often considered a poor cousin to kale and baby spinach, silverbeet is actually quite the antioxidant and vitamin overachiever, containing large amounts of A, C, E and K as well as fibre, iron, manganese, magnesium and potassium. Lightly stir-fry or steam for best results.

3 AVOCADO

Avos make everything better! Smash ‘em onto toast, whip into guac or spoon directly into your mouth. Full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, they’re also rich in vitamins and phytochemicals that are good for eyes and bones.

4 WALNUTS

Nuts are brimming with protein, healthy fats, protective antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals. A handful a day may help lower bad cholesterol and boost good gut bacteria. Eat by the handful, add to yoghurt or crush and use as a coating on chicken or fish.

5 EGGS

The humble goog is full of protein, mood-boosting omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and B vitamins. Scramble them to eat with grainy toast or hard boil for a grab-and-go snack.

6 GREEK YOGHURT

With its protein, gut healing probiotics and bone fortifying calcium, Greek yoghurt is also super tasty. Pick a plain variety and sweeten with berries or honey, or add Bircher muesli. Also, use in place of sour cream in recipes.

7 BROCCOLI

This green goddess has a bit of everything we need, such as plant-based iron, Vitamin C and other key nutrients to boost immunity and fight disease. Toss florets in a little olive oil, garlic, salt and black pepper then roast on a baking tray in a hot oven for about 20 minutes.
