IT SPOILS We’re not sure exactly why you would have uneaten chocolate lying around, but if you do happen to stockpile it, it’ll eventually go bad. It will have a funky taste or smell and may discolour. Dark chocolate stored in a cool, dark place will keep for up to a year; milk or white chocolate for around six months. Handcrafted specialty truffles and other choccies with cream or liquor fillings have a shorter life of two or three weeks – a little longer if refrigerated.

SMALL PORTIONS GIVE THE BIGGEST PERKS Dark or milk, you’ll reap the most benefits from small bites. Although chocolate also contains some iron, magnesium and zinc, it’s not enough to offset the fat and kilojoules that come with larger helpings. (We’re looking at you, giant Mars Bar...) Stick to around 30g a day. This is approximately two squares of a chocolate bar or one-third of a regular Cherry Ripe. (As if!)
