For you to note Dimensions given are to suit a queen-sized bed. Adjust the dimensions to suit your situation.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Use pocket hole jig to drill angled pilot and countersunk holes in both ends of the long and short frame sides. Drill 2 holes at each end.

STEP 2 For each panel (you’ll make three), spread glue along ends of long and short frame sides and bu into corner blocks so they’re centred on the sides of the blocks. Screw through pocket holes into corner blocks using 50mm screws. Leave glue to dry.

STEP 3 On front face of corner blocks, fill end grain with wood filler for a smooth finish. Let dry. Sand smooth. Remove dust, then undercoat and apply 2 coats of black paint. Let dry and sand lightly a˜er each coat. Also paint back rails.

STEP 4 Staple a length of binding cane to the back of frame near the corner block. Wrap around frame, keeping the cane close together, and staple to back of frame on other side. Continue stapling and wrapping cane lengths around the frame until you reach the other corner block.

STEP 5 Cut short lengths of cane to go around the frame, going in the other direction to the cane already aached. Staple 10 strands to back of frame, then wrap it around and weave it through these strands. Go over 10 strands, then under the next 10 and so on. Staple strands to back of frame on other side.

STEP 6 Repeat Step 5, alternating the strands that go under and over compared with the last batch of 10. Continue aaching and weaving strands of cane to the frame in this way until you have woven the entire frame.

STEP 7 Lay the 3 faces together face down on your bench. Sit the back rails over the corner block so the edge of the rail is flush with the outside faces of the blocks. Predrill and screw together.

STEP 8 To hang, hold the bedhead in place on wall and fix through the back rail into studs in wall using 75mm screws. Separate weave slightly and screw through boom part of back rail.

By weaving your own panels you have total artistic control over the paern and size of the weave, leing you create a bespoke bedhead. Sweet dreams are certainly made of weaves!
