EASY STEPS TO YOUR DRYING RACK

-

Make the most of all the high space going begging in your laundry with a ceiling-hung drying rack.

Here’s how

STEP 1 Determine hanging points for rack from laundry ceiling. Ideally, these will go into the ceiling joist, which you can locate using a stud finder. Predrill and insert screw eyes into ceiling. STEP 2 Mark out cross rail with rack positions using combination square. Make centre of outside racks 50mm from end of cross rails, then space others evenly between these. Outside racks each have 2 screws, 10mm from the edge of the rail, while centre racks have a single screw in centre of rail.

STEP 3 Predrill cross rails for screws with a counter sinking drill bit. Between the pair of screw holes for outside racks, drill 9mm holes through the rails for the sash cord hanger.

STEP 4 Use a sander to round edges of cross rails.

STEP 5 Screw a block to your bench and bu racks into them so they will all be aligned. Sit cross rails on racks so the distance between rails matches distance between eyes in ceiling, and the distance from the rails to ends of racks is equal at both ends. Drill pilot holes through screw holes in rails into racks and screw together using 40mm screws.

STEP 6 Continue the 9mm holes in the rails through the outside racks for the sash cord hangers.

STEP 7 Apply 2 coats of clear varnish to entire rack. Allow to dry and sand lightly between coats.

STEP 8 Tie lengths of sash cord to eyes in ceiling. Li drying rack and thread cords through holes. Make rack level then tie off cords to rack.
