EASY STEPS TO YOUR DESK
Convert an old dressing table into a stylish desk for your spare room. It makes a great workspace for you and your laptop, while your overnight guests can use it with their tablet to check emails.
Gather your supplies
• Dressing table
• Stain-blocking spray primer
• Chalk-finish ultra ma spray paint
• Knobs
You’ll also need Wood puy; dropsheet; protective face mask; detail sander; lint-free cloth
For you to note
• This project sands the varnish off the timber, and a stain-blocking primer is applied to block any stains or tannins showing through the topcoat, a good idea with secondhand pieces.
• Dulux Duramax Chalky Finish spray paint is used here. It has an ultra-ma finish, is fast drying and has the ideal formulation for upcycling furniture.
Here’s how
STEP 1 Remove mirror and side pieces from dressing table. Fill any holes le by removing nails with wood puy. Pull out drawers and remove all knobs. Clean any dust or grime off the timber. STEP 2 Wearing a mask, use detail sander to remove
varnish from entire dressing table and drawers.
STEP 3 Wipe off all sanding dust with a lint-free cloth. STEP 4 Working in a well-ventilated area, spray a coat of primer on exterior of dressing table, and drawer fronts and sides. Hold can about 30cm from
surface and move your arm from side to side, spraying lightly. Leave to dry.
STEP 5 Apply 2 coats of chalky finish spray paint to table and drawers. Leave to dry aer each coat. STEP 6 Aach new knobs to drawers and return drawers to table.
