EASY STEPS TO YOUR CHALKBOARD

-

Chalk it up for a to-do list with faux antique style

If you have a large fake gilt frame holding a picture of lile artistic merit, don’t send it to the charity shop or put it out for council pick-up. Turn it into a custom-made chalkboard instead.

Gather your supplies

• Large framed picture

• Chalkboard paint

You’ll also need Primer; painting gear; screwdriver; saw; construction adhesive; masking tape; interior gap filler; silicone scraper; fine sandpaper; lint-free cloth; wall hanger

Here’s how

STEP 1 Prise up staples or clips on backing board of framed picture. Remove picture and glass.

STEP 2 Use backing board to cut MDF to fit in frame. Using a paintbrush, apply 1 coat of primer to both sides of MDF. Allow to dry.

STEP 3 Run a bead of high-strength construction adhesive around frame.

STEP 4 Position MDF piece in back of frame and press down firmly. Leave glue to set.

STEP 5 Aach lengths of masking tape along edges where MDF meets frame.

STEP 6 Turn over frame and run a bead of interior gap filler all around inner

edges. Remove excess with a silicone scraper and leave to set.

STEP 7 Apply 2 coats of chalkboard paint to MDF, cuing in with a brush. Sand in between coats and leave to dry a…er each. Don’t worry about frame edges as they will also be painted. STEP 8 Apply chalkboard paint to frame with a brush. Rub it back with a lint-free cloth for an aged effect. Let dry. Wall-mount chalkboard using a hanger suitable for the wall type and rated to take weight of chalkboard.
