EASY STEPS TO YOUR CABINET BENCHTOP REVAMP
Freshen your kitchen Diystyle with cabinet paint and new benchtops, giving you the chance to also change up your sink. And it’s all from the hardware store.
Gather your supplies
• Benchtop timber
• Cabinet paint in green and white
• Sink and mixer
You’ll also need Painter’s tape; marker; drill; saw; jigsaw; sugar soap: sponge; primer; paintbrushes; paint trays and rollers; brackets; screws; screwdriver; clear sealer; door and drawer handles
For you to note
• Make sure to use primer and paint formulated for kitchen cabinets, and follow manufacturer’s directions for prep, application and finishing clear coat.
• Here, the base cabinets were painted green and the top cabinets white. Paint kickboards to match the base cabinets.
Here’s how
STEP 1 Use painter’s tape and marker pen to label and number each cabinet door and drawer face in order.
STEP 2 Take off cabinet doors, removing hinges and reserving. Take off drawer faces. Remove all handles.
STEP 3 Remove benchtops and measure, then mark
new benchtop material and cut to size with saw. Mark around sink and make cutout with jigsaw.
STEP 4 Thoroughly clean all doors and drawer faces with sugar soap and water. Use paintbrush to cut in then apply a coat of primer with roller. Leave to dry. STEP 5 Cut in with paintbrush, then apply 2 coats of paint in chosen colour to cabinet doors and drawer faces, using a roller. Leave to dry after each coat.
STEP 6 Install new benchtops, using brackets at the back to attach to cabinets and screws at the front from underneath. Install sink, then have plumber hook up new mixer. Seal benchtops. STEP 7 Rehang cabinet doors using reserved hinges, then install new door handles with supplied screws.
STEP 8 Reattach drawer faces, then add new handles with supplied screws.
