EASY STEPS TO MAKING A WINDOWSILL
Transform an unusually placed windowsill into a room feature that brings the outside in with off-the-shelf timber made into a ledge, topped with a gorgeous display of your favourite climbers and trailers!
Gather your supplies
• 140 x 19 x 1.8m dressed pine
• 235 x 19 x 1.8m dressed pine
• Water-based primer
• Water-based paint
You’ll also need Tape measure; combination square; pencil; mitre saw; jigsaw; 80-grit sandpaper; PVA glue; cloth; drill; countersink drill bit; 50mm timber screws; wood filler; scraper; orbital sander; nap roller; wall fixings

STEP 1 Measure, mark and cut all components (see list above) with tape measure, combination square, pencil and mitre saw.
STEP 2 To create curved edges on Shelf, stand paint tin on corner of Shelf, and trace around the paint tin. Cut curve shape with jigsaw. Repeat for other end.
STEP 3 Repeat Step 2 to create curves on Back and all Brackets.
STEP 4 Apply PVA glue to straight edge of Back, then
attach straight edge of Shelf in a butt joint. With drill and countersink drill bit, predrill 6 equally spaced holes through Shelf and into Back. Insert screws and tighten.
STEP 5 Measure and mark positions for 4 equally spaced Brackets. Apply PVA glue to both straight edges of Bracket, attach to Back and underside of Shelf. Predrill through Back and into Bracket, insert screws and tighten. Repeat to attach all Brackets.
STEP 6 Fill screw holes with wood filler and scraper, allow to dry. Sand all edges and filled holes with sandpaper. Apply 1 coat primer and 2 coats paint with nap roller, allow to dry after each coat.
STEP 7 Attach windowsill to underside of window frame with suitable wall fixings.
