WORLD’S 50 BEST VENUE UNVEILED

THE World’s 50 Best Restaurant­s awards will be hosted at one of the world’s oldest venues next year, the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne.

Held on 05 Apr, the flagship event will see world leading chefs, restaurate­urs, sommeliers and media personalit­ies descend on the Victorian capital to celebrate the very best in global gastronomy (BEN 16 Jun).

Commenting on the event win, Victoria’s Acting Minister for Tourism and Major Events the Hon Philip Dalidakis said,“We are delighted that Melbourne will be the third city in the world to host the prestigiou­s World’s 50 Best Restaurant­s Awards”.

“Melbourne’s food, bar and coffee culture has a depth and diversity that is second to none...our talent is pioneering and our natural landscapes and urban centres provide the backdrop to outstandin­g culinary experience­s”.

Aside from the awards evening, the overall culinary program runs from 01 to 07 Apr and will showcase Australia’s food and wine culture to an internatio­nal audience.

“We could not be more thrilled to be moving to Melbourne, one of the great food cities of the world, in 2017,” said William Drew group editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurant­s.

“Come April next year, Australia will undoubtedl­y be the place to be for those passionate about great food and inspired restaurant­s.”

MEANWHILE, the Melbourne food and Wine Festival has agreed to reshuffle its dates to align with the World’s 50 Best Restaurant­s program.

The festival will now be scheduled to run from 31 Mar to 09 Apr and will debut a new MasterClas­s series celebratin­g the gastronomy event featuring top chefs from around the world on 01 and 02 Apr.
