Australian freelance sports/ press photographer Jason O’Brien achieved third place in the Sports category. Based on the northern NSW coast, Jason’s winning images (see p73) depict French tennis player Gael Monfils in full flight at the 2016 Australian Open.
Born in Iceland, but a resident of Australia for the last 16 years, Christina Simons was placed second place in the Professional Daily Life category. Her series, titled The Little Bullfighters of Mexico, documents the story of two young boys attending matador training school in Mexico City.
