Sony’s ‘G Master’ lenses are high-performance models (following in the footsteps of the legendary Minolta G series) and the 100-400mm is an FE mount zoom for the A7 and A9 series mirrorless cameras. It’s weatherproofed, of course, and employs Sony’s ‘Optical SteadyShot’ image stabilisation which gives up to four stops of correction. A zoom torque adjustment allows you to set the zooming collar’s action exactly to your liking. The minimum focusing distance is 98 centimetres which, at 400mm, delivers a magnification ratio 1:2.8 (i.e. nearly one-third lifesize) which means smaller critters will still be reproduced quite large in the frame. The 22-elements optical construction includes three special types to deal with chromatic aberrations and Sony’s ‘Nano AR Coating’ helps maximise contrast by effectively reducing internal reflections. $3999.
