Caravan & Camping with Kids

EDITOR’S LETTER

-

Van life is booming in Australia, with an increasing number of families packing up their homes and hitting the road. Some are going for a few months, others have no deadline in sight, but all share a love for this great, mammoth land we call home.

For the past year, I’ve joined the perpetual caravan of adventurous families – some with newborns, others homeschooling teenagers – traversing the red-dirt roads of the north and the sandy tracks of the south. One thing that’s remained true for all families I’ve met is that they share a passion for showing their children why Australia is so special and why camping (whether in an old tent or a new ‘van) is the best way to travel.

With that in mind, the CCWK team and I have attempted to capture that lust for life with stories from the wild waterholes of Kakadu (pg. 102), the Outback’s iconic Birdsville Track (pg. 106) and the remote shores of South Australian gem, Kangaroo Island (pg. 28).

But we haven’t forgotten about campers with limited time, with some great yarns on easy city escapes, including NSW South Coast darling Kiama (pg. 44), perennial Queensland favourite, Noosa (pg. 92), and Victoria’s stunning High Country (pg. 110).

We hope this edition inspires you to visit new destinations, fall back in love with old ones and, ultimately, hit the road.
