Thetford Porta Potti Qube

If you love free camping, portable toilets are invaluable for caravans lacking washrooms. I couldn’t decide whether to get a toilet for months, mostly due to the fact my 1982 Viscount is only 12 feet long and space is at a premium. I didn’t want the extra clutter and, besides, a lot of campsites have, at a minimum, a drop toilet, I told myself. However, some campsites don’t and some Australian councils will even turn travellers away if their vehicles are not self-contained. This is when the Thetford Porta Potti Qube proves its worth.

Recently, our Porta Potti (invented by Thetford) allowed us to free camp at a large, excellently run campground in Julia Creek, Outback Queensland, as well as at a convenient campsite in Rockhampton’s (QLD) CBD. With such a small caravan, it’s vital that any toilet we carry is not only small but also light, and the Qube fits this bill.

When in use, the Qube sits neatly in a corner next to our bed or in a shower tent outside, and it doesn’t slide around when we’re driving between campgrounds.

The toilet is also easy to set up each time it’s needed, with Thetford’s Aqua Kem (blue and green) toilet care products helping to break down waste and only producing a slight chemical odour. There is also a level indicator display for the waste-holding tank, so you know when to empty, and the piston pump flush and blade (trap door) are also effective.

When we don’t need the Qube, it’s easy to clean the waste-holding tank at dump points and it packs away under our bed, out of sight and out of the way. The Thetford Porta Potti Qube is great, especially for people who love going remote.
