ULTIMATE FORD DAY
Europe’s only dedicated drift venue plays host to some of the finest Fords Scotland has to o er.
Driftland hosts Scottish Ford fest.
England may be rammed with tracks, but for years in Scotland the venues were limited, especially if drifting was your thing. Thankfully though, three years ago a group of eager drifters collaborated with a local land owner, and Driftland was born. The first purpose built drift track in Europe, and outside of Japan’s Ebisu, very little of a similar nature exists worldwide! Typical days at the track consist of practice days on various layouts, both fast and technical, plus tuition and experience days in school cars also. Another side which continues to grow are the weekend big events. Mostly marque themed and also making use of next door’s oval track. Don’t worry though, there’s no destruction derby of old Fords, it’s purely a handy spot to create a huge oval showground with cars lining the perimeter!
Everything from Pops to current plate models and all the good stuff in-between turned up. Even one super keen guy with a transporter full of South African imports straight off the boat! Plus it was great to see Bernie Roonie back out with his newly (and extensively) rebuilt 2JZ-powered Mk2 Escort after his roll up the bank at this very track only a few weeks before. Bernie was a man on a mission, and didn’t want to miss his guest spot in the Ford drift demos, so hats off to him for pulling out all the stops!
It might have sounded a tad arrogant for Driftland to call this the Ultimate Scottish Ford Day, but with the quantity of attendees, and quality of the cars and happenings on the day they’re certainly well on the road to what they’re claiming, if not already there!
